The State of Wisconsin v. Taylor Schabusiness murder trial is currently underway. The defendant described how she committed this murder and the actions she took after. Why is this going to trial when the evidence against the defendant is so strong?
The defendant has pleaded Not Guilty and Not Guilty because of mental disease or defect (NGI). This means the trial is going to be done in two phases. If the jury finds Shabusiness killed victim, Shad Thirion, the jury will decide if she will receive life in prison or treatment with the opportunity to be released at some point.
The facts of this case are wild; the defendant has had 5 competency evaluations and has repeatedly been deemed competent. This case will ultimately be a fight over the NGI phase of the trial.

The case with Erika Jayne and Tom Girardi is still surprising. Erika Jayne sat down with some of Tom Girardi’s victims and had a very interesting win on appeal. The California Bar are finally taking action against the other Girardi Keese attorney David Lira and Keith Griffin and implements a ‘snitch’ rule. California was the last state in the United States that didn’t have a ‘snitch’ rule. Tom Girardi has been indicted in California and Illinois however his attorneys in California are challenging his competency and those hearings are ongoing but there is quite a lot of information to be learned from those motions.
Mick Mars has sued Mötely Crüe after he alleges they’ve attempted to push him out of the band and strip him of all his earnings from future music, tours, and merchandise. It’s staggering to see how lifelong band mates can turn in one another.

It’s been a while since I have checked on the Britney Spears post-conservatorship litigation, and most of the current court dates have simply continued the same motions to other court dates. During the ongoing discovery disputes that are focused on the upcoming trial for the 12th accounting, it’s alleged by Britney’s attorney Matthew Rosengart that James Spears spend up to a Billion dollars of Britney’s money during the conservatorship. The 2005 Disappearance of Natalee Holloway was watched closely worldwide. The leading suspect in her disappearance and expected murder, Joran Van Der Sloot, was arrested twice during the investigation and has thus far yielded no prosecutions. Van Der Sloot later pleaded guilty to the murder of Stephany Flores, which occurred five years to the day of Holloway’s disappearance. In 2010, Van Der Sloot allegedly contacted Holloway’s mother and extorted $25,000 in payments to provide the location of Holloway’s remains and details surrounding her death. Van Der Sloot should be transported to the United States on June 8, 2023, and will remain in custody in the United States while he is prosecuted for extortion and wire fraud and any subsequent appeal before returning to Peru to serve the rest of his 28-year sentence.

In the seemingly unending Alex Murdaugh saga, he has now been indicted on 22 federal charges ranging from fraud to money laundering. These charges lay out decades of theft from clients. His friend Cory Fleming was also indicted. Fleming was the lawyer that Murdaugh recommended the Satterfield Sons use to ‘sue himself’. Fleming struck a deal early with prosecutors, and the plea was in place before the information dropped. Murdaugh’s lawyers have already indicated that they believe the federal charges will resolve, ie., Murdaugh wants a deal.

A year ago, I covered the Petito v. Laundrie Civil Lawsuit, where Gabby Petito’s parents are suing Brian Laundrie’s parents over statements made by their lawyer Stephen Bertolino before Gabby Petito’s body was found. The Petito’s are making claims for Intentional Infliction of Emotional Distress over the Laundries conduct. In the course of this civil litigation, attorney Bertolino has also been added to the lawsuit. In the current fight over discovery, we learn some shocking new details about a letter Roberta Laundrie wrote to her son Brian and was found in an envelope styled ‘Burn After Reading.’ Roberta Laundrie is seeking to have the court rule that the letter cannot be turned over to the Petito’s and is not relevant and, therefore, not discoverable. This case is moving toward trial, and there is still a lot to go.

The Idaho University Murders case Gag Order (non-dissemination order) is headed back to court. The Writ was denied by the Idaho Supreme Court based on a lack of original jurisdiction and made clear the District Court needed to decide the motions regarding the gag order. The Goncalves Family attorney’s motion is already pending before the court. The media companies have now filed their motion asking the court to vacate the order to allow the media more access to information in the case. The pre-preliminary hearing motions aren’t slowing down as the hearing date get’s closer.

In a surprising move, the new special prosecutors in the Rust case moved to dismiss the charges against Alec Baldwin ahead of the May 3rd preliminary hearing date. Prosecutors said that in preparing for the preliminary hearing that they discovered new facts that “demand further investigation and forensic analysis.” This case has been full of unexpected twists from the beginning.
