The Leah Remini v Scientology case was in court last week. The judge has scheduled the Anti-SLAPP hearing at a later date for further argument. Scientology Leader, David Miscavige, continues his efforts to be removed from the case stating he was never properly served.
Remini details that her process server made 32 separate visits to 9 different addresses on 16 separate dates from August 2023 to December 2023, costing her thousands of dollars. They will be in court on Valentine's Day to rule on the motion to quash.

Scott Peterson was convicted of killing his wife, Laci, and his unborn child, Conner in 2004. The Jury rendered a death sentence. He appealed the case, and the California Supreme Court overturned the death sentence but was still deemed guilty of murder and was to remain in custody without parole for life. The LA Innocence Project has picked up his case, claiming new evidence that could lead to a new trial needs to be examined. I break down the new motions filed and an overview of the case.

Bryan Kohberger was back in court for a scheduling conference. There is a high possibility that the trial will begin in the summer of 2025 and can be between 12 and 15 weeks long. Donna Adelson had a hearing waiving the conflicts with hiring the same attorneys who represented her son, Charlie Adelson. Hanna Gutierrez Reed was in court for a scheduling conference in the Rust Case and will go to trial next month. Jodi Hildebrant put her house for sale, and Kevin Franke filed a motion requesting a portion of the sale to go to his children. He is seeking restitution from the sale to go toward the Franke children for their future care and treatment as they recover from the abuse at the hands of Hildebrant and their mother, Ruby Franke. The Judge has ordered that Hildebrandt's assets may not be disposed of until after a restitution order is made.
In shocking news, Cheer coach Monica Aldama’s son, Austin, has been charged with ten counts of possessing or promoting illegal images of children. I review the grand jury indictment and break down the charges for the state of Texas. Coach Monica talked about how shocked she was when Jerry Harris was prosecuted for similar charges.

In New Mexico, Alec Baldwin was indicted on one count of involuntary manslaughter again. This is the second time the state has charged Alec with the crime. The first time, the state withdrew the charges because they wanted more time for forensic testing.

Leah Remini’s court battle with Scientology has been met with tons of additional litigation. Both sides have made it clear they will not go into mediation regarding this lawsuit, making a court showdown highly likely.
David Miscavige, the ecclesiastical leader, claims he was never properly served by Leah’s team and should be removed from the lawsuit.
Leah has requested the court place an injunction on the church of Scientology due to their continued harassment campaign against her. The manner of which has become so severe that by the time the trial is over, her reputation could be irreparably damaged.
The Church of Scientology has additionally filed an anti-SLAPP motion claiming their reciprocal right to speech is based on public interest. The court has been so overwhelmed with their back and forth that they requested both sides to stop filing motions while the court takes the time to review and consider the current motions prior to the hearing.

New year, New Trial? Alex Murdaugh has been assigned a new judge with the possibility of a new trial. Courthouse Becky's emails have been released due to a FOIA request and her book has been unpublished from Amazon due to plagiarism claims.
Donna Adelson's hearing was postponed due to bad weather with further news that she is being represented by the same attorney that represented her son, Charlie Adelson.
Bail has been set for Keefe D for the murder of Tupac Shakur. If bail is granted, he will be on house arrest pending the trial.
The Chrisleys have won a civil lawsuit against the Department of Revenue for the state of Georgia. The 1 million dollar settlement has given the couple and their attorney's optimism for their upcoming federal appeal.
Lastly, a judge has deemed Tom Girardi fit to stand trial after considering evidence of exaggeration and malingering from the disgraced former attorney.

On December 18th, Ruby Franke accepted a plea deal and plead guilty to 4 out of 6 child abuse charges against her. Ruby's attorney made a statement accusing Jodi Hildebrandt of being the mastermind behind the abuse, and Ruby agreed as part of her deal to testify against Jodi if she goes to trial. Jodi’s next court date is December 27, 2023.
The jailhouse call that led to Donna Adelson's arrest has been released. The conversation with Charlie Adelson took place shortly after his conviction. Despite jail calls being recorded, Donna discusses her possible plans to end her life, flee the USA, make sure her children are financially taken care of, and read aloud her text exchanges with Wendi.

A month ago, Charlie Adelson was convicted for the murder of Dan Markel, along with the conspiracy to commit the murder and for soliciting the murder.
Donna Adelson, Charlie's mother, was arrested at Miami International Airport before boarding a one-way flight to Vietnam. Donna spoke with Charlie in a recorded jailhouse call, stating her reason for going to Vietnam was because she thought they did not extradite criminals back to the USA.

The Petito v. Laundrie civil case is set for a spring 2024 trial, but there is a lot of litigation to go before then. In recent litigation, we learned that Brian Laundrie called his parents ‘frantic,’ saying Gabby was ‘gone’ and that he needed a lawyer. With the help of Attorney Steven Bertilino, they hired a criminal defense attorney in Wyoming. They are also seeking to compel further deposition of Bertilino, hoping the Judge will order him to disclose the contents of conversations with Brian Laundrie, which Bertilion asserts are protected by attorney-client privilege.

Bryan Kohberger's motion was granted regarding removing media cameras in the courtroom. Moving forward, the court will operate their own camera and broadcast to the court’s YouTube channel.
The TikTok defamation psychic's case continues as the TikTok'er accuses the court of inappropriate behavior while not adhering to the request for discovery.
Clerk of Court Becky Hill’s son was arrested for wiretapping, allegedly in connection with his job as the IT director for Colleton County. Interestingly, this case investigation started a few days after team Murdaugh filed their motion to stay the appeal, and Becky Hill’s phone was subsequently taken via a search warrant in connection with this investigation.
Lastly, Alex Murdaugh pled guilty to the state financial crimes and was sentenced to 27 years. Alex addressed his victims and the media, seemingly trying to make everyone understand that he felt bad for the crimes he committed and insisted that he did not kill his wife and son.

Muraugh murder trial Clerk of Court Becky Hill’s son, the head of the Colleton County IT department was arrested for wiretapping in an investigation that also resulted in Becky Hill’s phone being taken due to a search warrant.
It seems the 14th circuit solicitor's office was asked to look into this, days after Murdaugh’s defense team filed their appellate motion accusing Becky Hill of jury tampering.
Is this all a wild conscience or is there a lot more going on in the low country??

Cassie Ventura dropped a staggering lawsuit accusing Sean Combs of sexual assault, human trafficking, harassment, assault, and more. The allegations were shocking to some, and confirmation of suspicions to others. Combs' attorney was quick to accuse Cassie Ventura of seeking a payday and of previously attempting to blackmail Combs for 30 million. Alex Murdaugh was making moves leading up to his global plea deal. He was scheduled to go to trial on November 27, 2023, and will instead be sentenced on November 28, 2023. In addition to his plea to resolve the state financial cases, he also had a win with Judge Newman voluntarily recusing himself from hearing the Motion for New Trial on the murder case.
Kouri Richins, who's accused of poisoning her husband with fentanyl, was back in court for a slate of hearings. Her attorneys had made a motion to dismiss the charges, accusing the prosecution of misconduct, while the court gave her a lot of room to argue the motion was denied.
Coach Monica, head coach of the Navarro College Cheer team who was highlighted in Netflix's series Cheer has been dismissed from a lawsuit and cleared by USA Cheer after a six-month investigation.
