On September 17, 2020, Vanessa Bryant and Christopher Chester sued the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and the Los Angeles County Fire Department regarding photos taken of their deceased family members following the fatal January 26, 2020, helicopter crash. After the trial, the jury awarded each plaintiff 15 million. The County is already making plans for the post-trial motions.
