In this episode, I explore new headlines and evidence in the Idaho College Murders case. What are the facts, and what is fiction?? A search of Bryan Kohberger’s parents’ home yielded an ID card that’s reportedly connected to someone from the quadruple homicide. However, police have not officially confirmed the details due to the gag order in the case. It’s also being reported that there is evidence of cyberstalking by Kohberger toward one of the victims. Furthermore, headlines state that Kohberger is being investigated for similar cases, yet officials quickly stated that there is no evidence that he is connected to other cases.

Alex Murdaugh is asking for more money from a receiver in the Mallory Beach boat crash case to pay for his legal fees to appeal the murder conviction and sentence. The death of Stephen Smith has been linked to the Murdaugh family through rumor and through SLEDs 2021 announcement that they were investigating his death due to information they found during the course of the double homicide investigation into the death of Maggie and Paul. Last week there was a lot of movement in the Stephen Smith case, with SLED making a new announcement about their investigation and ordering a private exhumation. This is another twist in the lengthy Murdaugh saga.

In case you’re unfamiliar with the case, here’s an overview: In February 2016, Gwyneth Paltrow allegedly collided with a skier named Terry Sanderson at the Deer Valley Resort in Park City, Utah. Sanderson sued Paltrow for $3.1 million, claiming that she was skiing recklessly and caused him to suffer a brain injury and other injuries. She countersued for a dollar. They are in trial attempting to determine who is liable (responsible) for the collision.

The Idaho College Murders case is under seal, but a few documents have been unsealed. I am going through what police found in the White Hyundai Elantra, what is still underseal, and the petition for writ where over 20 media companies are trying to have the Idaho Supreme Court overturn the courts’ non-dissemination order. We have a long way to go before the preliminary hearing in June!

Idaho Professor Scofield sued a Tik Tok creator for defamation over the allegations that she killed the four victims and had an inappropriate relationship with one of them. After the defamation suit was filed, the creator acknowledged the suit and mocked it but didn’t respond. A default is entered, then the creator, representing herself, files an answer and a counterclaim. Yes…suing the Idaho Professor and the lawyers who sued her. It’s so wild.

The Girardi Keese empire crumbled at the end of 2020 and landed in an extensive bankruptcy that has also spawned a plethora of civil cases that are still pending. What we hadn’t seen is anyone being held criminally responsible. Judge Durkin in Illinois wrote a scathing opinion in the contempt proceeding stating that some of Tom Girardi’s and Girardi Keese’s behavior was unquestionably criminal. The US Attorney’s agreed, and Tom Girardi is now facing 18 counts alleging the theft of over 18 million dollars from clients. Will he be competent to stand trial, given that he is in a conservatorship? I am breaking it down in this episode.

On June 7, 2021, Maggy and Paul Murdaugh were murdered at the sprawling 1700-acre South Carolina hunting estate ‘Moselle’. A year later, Alex Murdaugh was indicted and arrested for the murders, the Trial began on January 23, 2023, in Colleton County, South Carolina.
There has been a lot of pre-trial activity ahead of the trial starting. The court recently ordered the jury information sealed and not disclosed, meaning jurors will be referred to by number, and their information will remain private.
The defense is seeking to keep a blood spatter expert from testifying; they filed a motion for sanctions related to that request. The prosecution has stated that they will not mention the expert until the court rules on it, and that subject is tabled for now.

So much is unraveling in the Girardi Fraud cases. First, did Erika Girardi swap the earrings before they were turned over to the auction house?
